Hey i think there are many other ways of unlocking an iPhone 3G. I wont’t be preferring to buy a software for unlocking as there are enough tips and tricks out there to unlock your iPhone for free, You just need some tips and tricks to do it well.
Disadvantage of the software unlock / jailbreak is that your phone will become locked again after Apple releases a new iOS version. There are also hardware unlocks on the market, wich dont have this problem. The best alternative is to get an IMEI unlock. These are around 175$ on the internet. But if you have your phone longer then a year, your current provider will most likely unlock the iPhone for you for free. ( i got mine unlocked via Tmobile)
